a 90 minute cinema documentary about the way of living, loving and marrying of the Turkish community in Germany.

Now is the time of the children and grandchildren of the first Turkish miners. Some of them are thick in the love business: the wedding industry. In the gray reality of Duisburg-Marxloh, the present now shines in the white of wedding dresses. “Dügün” gives an intimate insight into the emotional world of young couples and their families and shows the search for happiness in uprootedness.

“Dügün – Wedding in Turkish” seduces us into a world that is hidden as if in a dream bubble and is set apart from current conflicts between different cultures in Germany: coal was yesterday, so was structural change.

The documentary was produced by Ifage Filmproduktion in co-production with WDR. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW supported the distribution.
